JOYOUS OPENING

RIGHT TO LIVE IN CAPE PROVINCE

There was joy in Cape Town at the opening of Mater Domini, the first Mater Home opened outside of KwaZulu-Natal.

This signals hope for a more national response, said Fr Massimo Biancalani, addressing those gathered for the launch on 1st September 2007. Fr Biancalani is the Co-ordinator of the The Right to Live Campaign.

Mater Domini in Pinelands was made habitable thanks to the Catholic Woman's League, the Knights of da Gama, Human Life International and various caring individuals. At the opening the home was packed with well wishers. "The journey is just beginning" says a release from Mater Domini,"but we praise God for all the grace he has already given us and we vest all our hope in him who makes all things possible.

Sister Mary Ann Mkize

It is with great sorrow that we record the death of Sr Mary Anne Mkize who managed our Mater Christi home at Inanda until her death in June in 2007 at the age of 77 years.

Sr Mary Anne was a woman of great compassion. Looking after our largest home, she extended her good works to the dying, the suffering, the hungry and the social outcast. This she combined with great organizational ability and with care to see that the available resources went to the most needy

She joined the Poor Clare's (Capuchins) in Melville in 1930 and later the Daughters of Charity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

She served at the AIDS hospice in Inanda from 2000 and continued in that facility, when it was taken over by the Right To Live Campaign in 2003. She continued to run the hospice now named Mater Christi until her death in 2007
